Amlosin® 5
Amlodipine Besilate
Amlosin 5 contains Amlodipine (as amlodipine besylate) 5 mg, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits calcium ion influx in vascular smooth muscle, producing peripheral and coronary vasodilation and lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. It has a slow onset and prolonged duration of action, supporting once-daily dosing; it is extensively metabolized in the liver and is highly protein-bound.

Detailed Information
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonist that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle. It has a greater affinity for vascular smooth muscle than for cardiac muscle. Amlodipine acts as a peripheral vasodilator by directly relaxing vascular smooth muscle, resulting in a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and a consequent decrease in blood pressure. It also reduces coronary vasoreactivity, decreases vascular tone, and lowers myocardial oxygen demand by reducing afterload.
